Book launch by fine-art photographer Joginder singh

How might an architecture for the future address our current ecological crisis? Borrowing materials from the environment and offering attentive respect to nature and culture, adobe architect Didi Contractor’s buildings both inspire us and reconnect us to our heritage. Joginder Singh’s evocative photography transports us to these adobe buildings, sharing the aesthetic experience of viewing their exteriors, interiors, and small details of choice. In the accompanying text, Contractor discusses the roots of her vision and her work, which came late in her long life, emerging from a deep concern for our planetary future.

Launch of the book Women Architects & Modernism in India written by Madhav Desai followed by panel discussion moderated by Arch. Shimul Javeri Kadri. The evening will be hosted by Ms. Priya Paul, Chairman , The Park Hotel

Women Architects & Modernism attempts to recover the stories of the women architects whose careers nearly parallel the development of modernism in colonial and postcolonial India. Writing their experiences into the mainstream of the canonical architectural history within the challenge of non-existent archives, it also sheds light on pioneering women who broke male bastions to go beyond the traditional confines of the 1940s’ era.
