Sachin Bandukwala and Melissa Smith founded Banduk Smith Studio, an architecture, urban design, and research practice in 2011. Since then it has been recognized around India for design excellence, featured in Architectural Digest’s AD50 list in 2016 and 2017 and in Indian Architect and Builder’s list of Practices of Consequences 2012. The practice has also been recognized abroad, through Bandukwala and Smith’s publications “Blacksmith Caravans,” in the journal Room One Thousand, “[Beautiful] Architecture of Imperfect Translations” in Identity Matters: Architecture between Individualism and Homologation. They have been invited speak in London, Milan, Berkeley, Cairo, Brasilia, and across India.
