Jacob Van Rijs
Jacob Van Rijs was born in 1964 in Amsterdam, is an architect and urban planner and one of the three founding partners of MVRDV.
He studied at Delft University of Technology from 1984 to 1990 and graduated with a Master in Architecture with honourable mention. His is published and exhibited worldwide and received many international awards.
In addition to lecturing and teaching around the world, van Rijs is a professor at the Technische Universität Berlin, and is also the Chairman of the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects’ International Program, working to globalise and support Dutch architects in their work abroad. Jacob also sits on the Dutch Trade and Investment Board, working to represent architects in the elds of international trade and investment.
MVRDV was founded in 1993 by Winy Maas, Jacob van Rijs and Nathalie de Vries in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The practice engages globally in providing solutions to contemporary architectural and urban issues. A highly collaborative, research based design method involves clients, stakeholders and experts from a wide range of elds from early on in the creative process. The results are exemplary, outspoken projects, which enable our cities and landscapes to develop towards a better future.
